Progress... by the bucketload...

Last Sunday I fitted up the doorframe for linen cupboard.


Then I rehung all the frames that have been floating arouund the house, down the hallway. The effect is excellent!


Then I started in on making the frame, which will hold the bath up.


Checking the hang height of the bath, allowing for the mortar bed.


Laying out the wall positions on the floor.


The internal wall (which is the back of the linen cupboard) in, and the rebates cut and the sill in for the bath support.

Checking the bath level, and the tap positions (They're waaaay too high!)


The half wall is in...but now I can't get the bath in, hmmmm....


The rebates dressed out at the top to admit the bath, now it fits!

The remainder of the ceiling is in!


This morning I took everything out and gave it all a good sweep and vaccuum, before laying down the unnderlay.


The first sheet down. Got it right first time!


Second sheet down and nailed in.


Third sheet (only a little one) in and nailed down. Got it right first time too!

This week will be inserting the villaboard on the half wall, and dressing it to the right places to admit the bath. Then I will insert the second pieces in and insulate and then close the walls up to the roof!

Current ETC is August if this level of activity continues...

Yet Another Weekend in Review

A productive weekend it was!
My plan for Saturday was:
Redo all the soft solder joints in hard solder.
Do a tip run.
Prepare the floor for the installation of the new floor boards.

My plan for Sunday was:
Print geneaology pics.
Buy floorboards and stuff.
Install floorboards.
Install Lintel for the linen cupboard.
Cut out the wall for the linen cupboard.
Fix the goat fence.

So: First up I had to do the tip run so I could duck into the shops to buy some solder fittings. I wasa bit late in the morning, so I didn't have time to grab any bricks off the pile, but there's another opportunity next weekend.

Once I got back I progressively pulled out each section of plumbing that I'd done in soft solder and redid it in the hard stuff. Much easier with the new torch. Smelly though.

Since I had the fittings and the time I also ran the drain line for the basin in. This meant I could also close up this part of the floor.

Next up I cut all the short boards and made sure they'd fit so that all I had to do was buy the long boards and put them in.

Seeing as I had some spare time, I waited until the chooks went to bed and fixed the bottom chookhouse so they'd bed stuck in the yard again. Now for the catching of the rest of them!



Sunday was good! I went for my walk and found a dehydrator and spare trays and jerky kit (read: really small sausage press), all for $50. SCORE!

Bought all the fittings I needed and then got to work.

This next pic is after I have installed the boards and the one after is where the shower/bath will go. In the left hand corner, you can see there's a couple of boards loose. This is where I will have to reach through the linen cupboard to reach under the bath to make the final drain connection.

This is the easiest way to do it. I expect it to suck.




Next up was the linen cupboard prep. Here is where I have cut the rebates for the lintel.

I took some time here to do some picture framing and goat fencing as it was starting to get dark and I needed to wait for the recipro saw batteries to charge.

The skirting board removed and the cutting in progress...

Note that I've given up on the recipro saw. So much easier with my biggest wood saw, especially as it meant I could keep cutting right through the studs...

This is what life is about! Breaking down the walls between us and our goals!

After this I swept up, and put in a support stud to hold the lintel and spread the load until I drop in the board and centre stud of the cupboard which will do the same job only prettier.

This week will be about capitalising on this work by prepping to put in the studs and making up the door from for the cupboard and then making up the doors.
