...and Crown Prep

A return to a post long since due, instability and slackness have ensued with great vigour, so I really can't put too much together on this one, other than at the time it was one of those immensely bonding male experiences (I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that!).

And Mr W doing what he does best, plugging away at a technical type task until it is done, perfectly, and checked.... over and over and over again. But it was perfect. In the front you can see the press we used to push out the candleabra cups.












Here we see yet more perfection from Mr W. and the press is still there too. By this stage Mr W was up to the cutting stage for the cups again. 128- 5' cups.... Never again!

It was always my intent to provide a complete end to end write up on this process, but C'est la vie. Sufffice it to say, that through huge efforts from Mr W, Mr D, Miss J, Mr R and several others, over many many hours, we made 10 fantastic chairs which added massively to the look of the hall, 8 candleabras, painted, fitted, hung, and candled, and a variety of other wonders which did the Barony proud on the big day. Yay, for us! Pithy, yes?

I'll do better next time, I promise.

Yankee Auction....

Yesterday we headed down to the yankee auction, had a great day and bought abunch of stuff. Mr D had his first auction experience and loved it, Mr W had fun inside and got some lovelies...




Here're some valuable lengths of Flue and some nice stools, also note the octagonal firebox in the background. I've never seen one like it before.




















Here's a nice CB and Chainsaw we got for super cheap.



Here's the rest of the stuff, some glorious carnival glass, all stands, revell model, Demijohns, greenware, tools and silverware, excellent.

Another Good Day

Today SWMBO went south for the spring fencing picnic. I spent the day doing a tip run, going to another auction, and helping with the collection for the yankee auction which is next week.

Had a great time working with the leven district guys. They have a great attitude and atmosphere as a district, and the afternoon was lots of fun. Found out some interesting stuff about things that were going on in the state which were nearly enough to make me help with the National Event which will be held in tassie in 2012. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. But If I do it will be on the basis that I can help up and coming leaders put their ideas into effect.

Basically, I have ideas, but often they're too big for the situation. What I am good at is controlling a group to put up their ideas and then follow them through. Surround yourself with people smarter than you, and its sure to improve you.

1 week till Yankee Auction!

Funday

Yesterday was Funday, that's right Funday every day I'm at an auction is a Funday, which could be a problem as I'm having 4 more Funday's in the next 3 weeks.

I drove over to the Tamar Valley where the Carter Holt Harvey pine Panels mill was having its clearance sale. The whole wharehouse shed was full to the brim with STUFF. For a very limited spend I got 9 boxes of stuff, electrical and tools and STUFF. Great Day!!

Things Projecty and Farmy

Had a realisation this weekend that this could be a handy place to record other stuff, kind of like the log/almanac I always mean to use but never do....

So last Monday this little guy woke me up;
Only 11 weeks till chop day if it's a boy.
Interesting to note the low hatch rates this year, after an exceptionally dry winter. This white hen normally hatches 10-15 chicks per clutch and one of the brown hens gave up on her clutch of 8 eggs, although there were a couple of decent thunderstorms in there as well.

Given that my one solitary duck is laying I might invest of borrow an incubator to hatch out some more gal pals for her, so that the boys stop rogering her every 10-15 seconds. She's starting to waddle kind of funny.

Spent a couple of hours on Saturday morning working the bees, reorganised things in the hives from all ideals to having a couple of full-depth supers in. Populated them with 50-50 ideal comb and full-depth foundation, so that I can build up a stock of full depth comb.

















Also took our first harvest of honey;
Very yummy.
















Spent Saturday Afternoon and most of Sunday making gothic arch chairs for the Barony, with Miss A, Mr W and Mr D. These will look very funky once painted and setup up behind High table.









Now I'm trapped in the land of day one back at work after the change-over to daylight savings, sucky sucky ball balls.
