The week in review

So, apart from carting hay (60 Bales in the barn, Woot!) and cutting slots in concrete walls and spending yesterday at home sick with gastro, the last week and a bit has been;

Cleaning up the bottom driveway a bit, although I really do need to get down there with the chainsaw and cut the wax up into more reasonable sized blocks and move them under the house out of the way.

I must say though, the best thing about having a balcony while you're reonvating is that you can park the trailer under the door and just launch everything over the side!

The bathroom construction effort is on hold until I have enough energy to pull down the rest of the walls and the ceiling, which I need to have electrical type thigs prepared for as the exisitng wiring is totally substandard.

I have reccied under the house for the new location of the hot water service, which I reckon will work well, and have also located a reasonable cable run to bring the power down to it, without having to FAF arounf too much.

Pipe runs should be fairly reasonable too as it runs alongside the exisintg cold water feed to the house. I've had the realisation that I can save about $500 by using the standard straight lengths of copper pipe that I already have, instead of buying the expensive poly lag stuff, which would be a bit of a bitch to run anyway.

Having spent time last weekend buying things at tip shops and salvage yards, I've saved about $1000 straight up and will use a calmer, less opulent tile than I had thought about previously. I think I will save the marbled finish and hand painted hop theme for the ensuite to the master bedroom, when it gets done in 201?.

Also found this lovely display cabinet at the snug tip shop, which I will restore and use for all my bit of glassware/crystal. Although I may need to copy it off for a second one to fit it all in.



Thank christ the election is over. Two and a half years until it all starts again!

Got the opportunity to get these guys for nothing on friday, so I took it, and now I have 20 odd ducklings to fatten for a kill in the early new year. Very glad I didn't go for the 200 free geese now.

The goats are doing an excellent job on the middle paddock and have also started on the new fenced area on the far side of Mary's place.


This weekend I'm going to Save-a-Buck in Wynyard to reccy for appropriate bath tubs, before I capitulate and buy the brand new acrylic one. Having a BBQ with the carpoolers and then eading south to see Tex Perkins at the republic bar.

Will do another scan of the hobart tip shops on Sunday and then come back up to prepare for the new week.

Ouchy!

Been meaning to post for a couple of days, but works have been distracting.

Sitting at my desk ATM, feeling very sorry for myself, as my neck and shoulders are absolute agony. After spending a fair whack of time cutting the first of the slots in the retaining wall to accomodate garden lighting cables on Sunday night, I had planned to do very very little last night.

Unfortunately (fortunately?), the opportunity came up to get 60 bales of hay at $4, which is an extrodinarily cheap price. I managed to get them all home in two trips, but there's still 20 sitting in the middle paddock (please don't rain today!) and 8 in the back of the patrol. I finished working at about 11.

Ouchy!

Seriously considered staying home in bed today, but I couldn't let myself be that soft.

The real bugger is I'm expecting the same opportunity next Monday night, and I won't be able to turn it down then either, as it will mean I have a full year's feed in store, plus the standing feed in the fenced areas. Getting 10 or so lambs/hoggetts to fatten for meat is looking like a real option now.

The week in review

I are busy as a busy thing!

Last wednesday I sent off four chooks in trade for some drafting of armour patterns to use in a laser cutter.

Then on thursday seven more turned up with clucky white hen. Although I noted this afternoon that the little black one was dead, not sure why...

Still have two hens sitting, and the duck and the peahen have both dissappeared after lots and lots of mating rituals.


Spent time on the weekend working on fences and putting the flashing on the peacock shelter and wiring up the windows and making it all good. Now all it needs is a door, shutters, and a paint job.


Here's the middle paddock all fenced up, with two new gates. Goats are much with the happy.

Today I also broke new ground by pushing a fence around a blackberry hedge and through an ivy thicket. Should be right now until February, when I think I will hard fence all the way up to the road on the far side of Mary's place and down to the front border to bring it all into line, before stepping further out into the scrub and removing the fire hazard. Don't worry Miss Krin, none of it is native!

Once I had the yard cleaned up, goats to bed, tools away, I thought, time to look at the bathroom.

I looked at it and then...

It Imploded!!
This is all a really good find. The peatrap is in the right place to move across to where the new basin will go, and then I can put one in for draining the floo and one over in the old hot water service space to cater for the new shower. I reckon I should have in under control before Canty Faire.... I hope.

Worky work

Have spent this evening cutting iron to complete the eastern wall of the peacock shelter and to make a new gate, to go on the new gate deadman.

Battled a bit getting sheets into position, and I still need to put some boards and the last sheet on the eastern wall and then I can put the last sheet on the western wall. Will also cut the timbers for the northern windows tomorrow night.

Fencing the new yard will take place over the next week and thenew yard on the far side of mary's place in the next 3.

Will look at pulling the bathroom apart in the next fortnight also.

Had thought about going to Hobart this weekend for a tourney, but given the number of blisters on my hands, I might give it a miss.

True Story!

Got back yesterday from Crown Tourney, which I'm told I came fourth in. No freakin way!

Fantastic news was that Somerled came third and got knighted.

Berengar won Crown for Bethan, which I had hoped for and sort of expected.

My knee held up really well, but I still need to organise for the second appointment to check it out.

Couldn't fight for Lillith because of mundane restrictions, which also left Maude without a champion, so opportunity knocking, I fought for Maude. The total surprise was when HRM Hugh asked me to join the side of the chivalry.

Prep for Crown was huge and now it's much with the tired.

I was really happy with the result, but I was totally knackered once I got to Qld.

Today was my recovery day so all I did was;
Built a deadman for a new gate below the house.
Pulled out a temporary e/fence to use elsewhere.

This week I will;
Put in a temporary e/fence for around that area to reduce the grass before real fencing.
Clean up the peacock shelter - cut excess iron off, attach ridge capping, put up chicken mesh for the windows.
Possibly make a couple of new pairs of braies.
